It aims to help students to master important theories, doctrines and cases, and, more importantly, develop good analytical skills. The course will give students a solid foundation from which they can further tap into relevant areas of Chinese business law.

B844W - Chinese Contract Law 5 credits
This course is designed to equip students with essential knowledge of contract law in China as well as appropriate skills for applying this knowledge in handling business matters of various kinds. The course aims to help students to gain a good understanding of relevant legal principles and doctrines in contract law and develop the analytical skills required in the complex business environment of China. 

B845W - Chinese Laws on Enterprises 5 credits
This course introduces to students the latest developments in laws regarding various forms of enterprises, including sole traders, partnerships, companies, foreign investment enterprises, etc. It also discusses from a legal and practical angle some important employment issues in relation to enterprises. It aims to help students to gain an effective command of the relevant legal principles and cases contained in laws of particular relevance to commonly used business vehicles, and develop the analytical ability needed in the context of China’s rapidly growing economy. 

B846W - Chinese Intellectual Property Protection Law 5 credits
This course provides an in-depth analysis from a business perspective of some important areas of intellectual property protection law. It seeks to cultivate students’ awareness and analytical ability so that they can cope with the legal difficulties in this area in the current social and business environment. The course discusses laws on copyright, patents and trademark; and places an emphasis on understanding the importance of protecting intellectual property in conformance with WTO regulations. 

B847W - Chinese Finance Law 5 credits
This course focuses on laws in the banking and finance fields, especially securities law, banking law, law on negotiable instruments, trusts law, insurance law, etc. It seeks to provide students with knowledge regarding current developments and reforms in finance law.

B848W - International Business Law and China 5 credits
This course examines the regulatory landscape of international business law, which is widely defined as including the international conventions, rules and practices that govern international trade, finance and investment, the resolution of disputes, etc. It aims to provide students with quality instruction on mainstream international practice and most importantly its impact on China in the context of globalization and China’s gradual integration into the world business arena.

B855W - Comparative Study of Business Law I 5 credits
This course attempts to satisfy the needs of the many people who want to study Chinese business law in comparison with the business law of common law jurisdictions. The focus of the course is to compare some important issues in Chinese business law with those in common law jurisdictions like Hong Kong, England, Australia and Canada. Students will benefit greatly from being able to distinguish differences between these jurisdictions in terms of the business law concepts and practices presented in the course.

B856W - Comparative Study of Business Law II 5 credits
This course is a continuation of the comparative study of business law in China and in common law jurisdictions like Hong Kong, England, Australia and Canada. The focus is on intellectual property law, trusts law, the legal framework governing real property transactions, and mechanisms for settlement of commercial disputes. B855W Comparative Study of Business Law I is a pre-requisite of B856W Comparative Study of Business Law II. Students must complete B855W before they can enroll in B856W.

B813W - Business Concepts and Practices for Legal Professionals I 5 credits
This course aims to increase students’ knowledge of widely accepted business concepts and practices. Students can acquire necessary knowledge and concepts relating to organizational and operational business management models, marketing, banking and finance, project management, etc. Through the understanding of business principles, students can apply their knowledge in the daily operations of legal practices.

B849W - Principles and Practices of Chinese Constitutional Law 5 credits
This course introduces students to essential knowledge in Chinese constitutional law. It aims to help students to gain a good understanding of the main principles and current developments in constitutional law, which is the fundamental and supreme law in the country.

B852W - Theories and Practices of Chinese Economic Law 5 credits
This course highlights a series of economic law issues which people are likely to encounter when doing business in China. It is directed at an analysis of leading theories in Chinese economic law and their practical significance. It aims to cultivate students’ skills in problem-solving when encountering legal difficulties or when dealing with dilemmas arising from the complicated and constantly evolving business environment in China, especially when they need to deal with government bodies concerning relevant governance issues.

B853W - Principles and Practices of Chinese Administrative Law 5 credits
This course is designed to familiarize students with essential theories of administrative law in China. It aims to help students to gain a good understanding of the latest developments in this field, with particular emphasis on today’s economic and social environment, and the role of the government in advocacy of the rule of law.

B854W - Chinese Legal Framework for Settlement of Commercial Disputes 5 credits
This course aims to help students to gain a good understanding of the current mechanisms in the legal framework in China for settlement of disputes arising from commerce. It seeks to cultivate the analytical skills of students by guiding them to approach issues from an international and comparative perspective. The course will offer students a solid base of knowledge when dealing with disputes while doing business in China.
