Cognitive Processes and Technologies (Academic Year 2022/2023) - Neurosciences (in partnership con la Berlin School of Business and Innovation - BSBI)

Principles of cognitive neuroscience

Credits: 6
Content language:English
Course description

The course aims to illustrate the biological basis of mental and cognitive processes, starting from the understanding of the functioning mechanisms of the nerve cell, to then deal with the anatomy and physiology of the main neuronal networks involved in cognitive processes. Finally, the neurophysiopathological correlates underlying the main learning, mood and thinking disorders will be treated.

Objectives

The course aims to correlate the anatomy and physiology of the central nervous system with cognitive functions and behavior. Lesional paradigms characteristic of certain neurological pathologies will be studied to better understand the relationship between anatomical site and brain function.

Program

The main objectives of the course are to illustrate the physiological and anatomical bases on which cognitive, behavioral and emotional processes are based. After a description of the main structures of the brain, the most recent knowledge will be examined to demonstrate how mental processes are based on complex neural networks whose organization is affected by the experience of the individual. Some of the most recent acquisitions in understanding the neural mechanisms underlying perception, attention, memory and language will also be presented.
